OBEDIENCE TRUMPS SANITY

WHEN GOD TOLD MY HUSBAND ROB AND I TO MOVE FROM PHOENIX TO DETROIT

WE KNEW HE WAS CERTIFIABLY CRAZY...

...but obedience trumps sanity so we bought a house IN Detroit – no suburbs for us, packed up the kids, and moved! No jobs.  No family.  No Nothing.   All we knew was Detroit was our mission field and in spite of all the horrible things we heard about Detroit in the news, that was where we needed to be.

When we arrived with our two kids in February – 8 months ago, the furnace and hot water heater had been stolen out of the house we bought.  A month later someone tried to shoot out our car windows; a couple of months after that all four wheels were stolen off of our other car!  The house had no kitchen, busted windows, and mice.  People kept saying, “if you HAVE to stay at least move to a better neighborhood, but you really should move back.”  We refused to be deterred.  We knew THIS city, THIS house, was where we were called to be.

Finding a new church home was a priority but we hadn’t found a church that loved Detroit like we did, until Detroit Church.  During our first service we knew we had found our family!   It’s been full speed ahead since then.  Rob and I work with the youth on Wednesday nights, we also head up one of the LIFEgroups on Tuesday nights in our home (that now has a heater – praise God), I am taking over the Detroit Church’s marketing initiatives, and have gotten very involved in the Heavenly Hope Sex Trafficking ministry.

Being obedient and willing to be used seems crazy – even to other believers. Time and time again, just when we thought Satan might have won one of the battles we were facing, we have seen GOD use what was meant for bad and turn it around to be used as a testimony to HIS goodness and faithfulness.   We are excited to see what God is going to continue to do in and through Detroit Church, and in and through our family.
